Spring break in Florida is right around the corner and brings some of the best fishing conditions to our area! We have been enjoying spring like weather patterns for the last couple of weeks here in Saint Petersburg and the fishing has been outstanding. March and April are some of my favorite months to fish here in the Saint Petersburg and Clearwater Beach areas.
Deep sea fishing continues to be improving with the warmer temperatures as the bait falls in over many of the wrecks, reefs and areas of hard bottom luring in many pelagic species. On recent trips, we have been catching good numbers of Mangrove Snapper, Hogfish and Red Grouper. Slow trolling live baits over wrecks have produced some big Amberjack and Barracuda. If you are looking for the ultimate fight then a big Goliath Grouper or Shark is right up your alley.
Inshore fishing in Tampa Bay has been really heating up the past few weeks. The baitfish are starting to show up in big numbers allowing us to switch gears from shrimp fishing to fishing with live scaled sardines. This time of year, all the fish are extremely hungry and can’t resist a live bait presented in front of them. Springtime is one of the best times of the year to target Snook, Redfish and trout on the flats in Tampa Bay. We have also been catching plenty of big jacks, ladyfish and Sheepshead on our inshore trips offering some great action on light tackle.
Spring Break is some of our busiest times of the year for fishing charters in Saint Petersburg, Clearwater and Tampa, so make sure you book well in advance to get the date you want.
